The European Union (EU) is requiring that coniferous softwood packaging materials meet a new set of standards effective October 1, 2001.  Rainier Pallet is fully prepared to supply pallets, boxes, crates and other industrial wood products that meet those standards.

The EU is requiring that all non-manufactured softwood packaging materials be either: 1) from certified heat-treated (not kiln dried) softwood lumber, 2) from pressure treated/chemically impregnated lumber or 3) properly fumigated before shipment.  The EU is requiring a certification stamp on the packaging material for heat-treated or fumigated packaging materials (due to safety concerns we are not using “pressure treated” materials for packaging).  No other paperwork or documentation is required for shipments to the EU.

Rainier Pallet is authorized to certify the softwood packaging materials in products that we deliver to you.  However, you may already have pallets or boxes that you were planning to use for shipments to the EU.  We can help you with a certified fumigation process, even if your products are already palletized, crated or boxed.  Also, we can manufacture standard sized pallets from non-coniferous hardwood lumber that are exempt from the regulations.

We also are authorized to certify that our fumigated reconditioned used pallets are approved for EU shipments.

We have studied and followed this issue carefully and look forward to working with you to meet the new regulations.
